Fred (Christophe Lambert) is the quintessential punk. When the rich Héléna (Isabelle Adjani) invites him to her opulent birthday party, Fred breaks into her husband's safe and steals explosive documents. He flees into the catacombs of the Paris subway. His demand for the return of the stolen documents: 25 grand or a night with Héléna. But she doesn't give in that easily.

Luc Besson's atmospheric, aesthetic, fast-paced thriller, set almost exclusively in the Paris metro as a surreal neon world. With the two stars of the time, Isabelle Adjani and Christophe Lambert (César Best Actor in a Leading Role for SUBWAY) and of course with Besson's later favorite actor Jean Reno, who only plays a supporting role as a hyperactive drummer before later becoming a big star.
