Conductor Anja Bihlmaier returns to the Beethovenfest for the third year in a row to perform Brahms' German Requiem on the Day of German Unity - with the BBC orchestra in a phenomenal line-up. Brahms chose texts from the Luther Bible to tell of man's reconciliation with death with poignant depth. Lili Boulanger's short psalm setting with pomp and timpani forms a charming contrast to this.
