The rise of the AfD currently knows no bounds. In the polls for the Bundestag elections, it has clearly been the strongest party for weeks, and in Saxony-Anhalt it is currently at over 40 percent and could possibly even form a sole government. And the first CDU members are openly discussing an AfD-CDU federal government.

But what would that actually mean? Is there a threat of a fascist dictatorship like in the 1930s? Or is the AfD developing more in the direction of a German version of the Austrian FPÖ or is it "melonizing" like in Italy?
