Unter Druck: Ein Panel über Gesellschaft, Bildung und das soziale Potential der Künste in Zeiten multipler Krisen mit einem Impulsvortag von Prof. Dr. Aladin El-Mafaalani

In times of rapid change and great uncertainty, the question of the social significance of the sciences and arts is particularly relevant. At the same time, the multiple crises of the present are also putting our education system under massive pressure. Aladin El-Mafaalani, a sociologist who teaches in Dortmund, has been working for many years on the importance of education and the changing role of educational institutions in a diverse society characterized by educational inequality, demographic challenges, rapid media change and political polarization. As a prominent voice in public discourse, he reaches a wide audience with incisive theses and books such as "Mythos Bildung", "Kinder - Minderheiten ohne Schutz" (together with Sebastian Kurtenbach and Klaus Peter Strohmeier) and "Misstrauensgemeinschaften".

El-Mafaalani will introduce the complex topic in a keynote speech. The subsequent workshop discussion will build on this and discuss the challenges facing our education system today from different perspectives. One focus will be on the cultural space of schools and the question of how and to what extent cultural education and the arts can contribute to self-empowerment, resilience, social participation and building social trust. The Klavier Festival Ruhr's long-term cultural education work at schools and daycare centers in Duisburg-Marxloh, which was presented at the academy last year, serves as a point of reference. The event will be filmed by Corinna Belz and Laurentia Genske as part of their documentary film project about the music and dance education work at the Sandstraße elementary school in Duisburg-Marxloh.
