One day after graduating from university, Anselm sets off with two friends to cycle through southern Africa. When they fly back home, Anselm simply continues on his own. Step by step, his route through the African continent develops, always close to the people. He doesn't buy any water, travels under his own steam and is woken up by lions in the wilderness at night. Gradually, his trust in his fellow human beings grows and a deep love for the vast African continent develops, which is not even shaken by serious illnesses and 3,000 km of headwinds during the Sahara crossing. And from the initial uncertainty grew a trusting vigilance and the confidence to reach the next destination: Asia and the roof of the world, where his journey comes to an abrupt end after three years.
