Auf den Spuren der Ehrenfelderinnen
In the organizer's words:
Guided Tour
Left and Right of Venloer Straße
Did you know that Ehrenfeld emerged around 1850 from a cluster of farms, practically out of nowhere? The so-called “factory girls” toiled in nearly all of Ehrenfeld’s factories. On this guided tour, you’ll learn how fine the line was between “virtuous” and “corrupt” female workers, where the first hospital was located, why a stenographer was forcibly sterilized, and what compassionate nuns accomplished. The tour also covers a “ruthless” but dedicated politician and a chic innkeeper.
TourGuide: Cornelia Gürtler
Meeting point: Geisselstraße at the corner of Venloer Straße
