Aurel Mertz [au're:l mɛrts] is a comedian, host, podcaster and actor. Born and raised in Stuttgart, he moved to Vienna and Istanbul to study journalism and communications, and eventually to Berlin. In 2013, he was discovered by Frank Elstner and completed his master class. According to his own account, he spent six months there being told by renowned journalists and presenters how exciting their lives were and given the opportunity to develop his own formats. With comedy at heart, Aurel first developed his own first late-night show, "Boomarama," which was seen on Tele5 from 2016-2018, and has since worked for channels such as ProSieben and ZDFneo, among others, receiving engagements as an actor for film and TV, hosting awards, and appearing on stages across the country as a stand-up comedian. In social media in particular, his often political and socio-critical discourse is a constant source of sparkling conversation, as he lays his fingers deep in the wounds of our society - always with a satirical
wink.

Since 2019, he has been the face and co-author of the funk format Aurel Original, a comedy show described by various German interior ministers as decomposing the state, which has made a name for itself in the media for its funny but also socially critical clips. In 2021, Aurel Original was promoted to the ZDF media library as a satire show. Aurel is passionate about sports, comedy and cats, generating entertaining content while not taking himself too seriously.
