Auwaldtour Sommer: Auf dem Motorboot durch die sattgrüne Auwaldlandschaft - mit Biologen

The floodplain forest is an oasis in the middle of the city. Even during the hot, dry summer months, it impresses with its lush greenery and dense canopy, which offers shade and tranquility.

Your tour of this summer paradise begins at the Klingerweg boathouse, crossing the Palmengarten weir and passing through the floodplain. After the Connewitz lock, the atmosphere suddenly changes: from summer bustle to pleasant, soothing, cooler nature.

A dense carpet of perennials and grasses covers the forest floor. Sycamore maples, English oaks, common ash trees, field elms, and small-leaved linden trees soar toward the sky. You can even still find a flowering perennial here—the wolf’s-bane.

Shy inhabitants include roe deer, wild boar, and the European wildcat. The red fox is more bold and is spotted more frequently. But you’re sure to encounter some of the over 100 bird species! Cheerful songbirds and the occasional woodpecker will accompany you on your summer tour, and with a little luck, you might even spot a kingfisher.

You’ll enjoy the ride for about 120 minutes. The captain will share facts you’ll only learn on this tour: fascinating details about the flora and fauna passing by and moving stories about the Leipzig floodplain forest.

The tour starts and ends at the Klingerweg boat rental. An additional boarding or disembarking point is the pier at the horse racing track.
