As part of International Women's Day, the Hamburg State Women's Council and the Kammersinfonie Hamburg would like to dedicate a special benefit concert to Hamburg's women's shelters. The proceeds of the evening will be donated to them in full. Hamburg's Second Mayor Katharina Fegebank will speak on this occasion.
Violence against women is still a serious social problem. Every third day, a woman dies as a result of violence by her partner or ex-partner. Women's shelters play a crucial role in supporting victims. They provide a safe haven, protection, counseling and other resources for women affected by domestic violence.
In the spirit of supporting and empowering women, only works by female composers will be performed on March 7. This is because the history of classical music is largely dominated by male composers, meaning that works by women have often been underrepresented or forgotten.
