BergWacht w/ Booka Shade LIVE

For St. Nicholas and this year's end-of-year celebrations, we're going to make it pop for you once again. Iconic German duo Booka Shade, consisting of Walter Merziger and Arno Kammermeier, have established themselves as one of Europe's most celebrated electronic acts over the last two decades. From their groundbreaking releases in the underground of the 90s to their recent GRAMMY nomination, the pair continually prove why they remain at the heart of electronic music.

Booka Shade have their roots in Frankfurt, where they were originally based in synth-pop. They quickly gained a large fan base within the electronic music scene and founded the now legendary dance label Get Physical Music in 2002, together with M.A.N.D.Y., Thomas "DJ T." Koch and Peter Hayo. Three years later, they catapulted themselves into the electronic music Olympus with the EPs "Mandarine EP" and "Body Language" - the latter produced together with M.A.N.D.Y.. In the years that followed, they released a number of outstanding albums and singles that achieved great success worldwide.

Since their breakthrough performance at the Sónar Festival in 2005, Booka Shade have gained widespread recognition for their innovative live shows. In 2010 they were named one of the top 5 live acts in the world by Resident Advisor. They have opened for legendary acts such as Depeche Mode and Kraftwerk and have performed on the main stages of festivals such as Coachella, Glastonbury, Rock Werchter and Red Rocks to name but a few. In recent years they have featured on DJ Mag's 'Alternative Top 100 DJ List' (2018) and their unique live sets have been recognized in numerous festival reviews and compilations, including DJ Mag's '10 Unforgettable Sets From The History Of Exit Festival'.

Booka Shade don't just captivate electronic music fans. Performances at events such as the Montreux Jazz Festival and Lollapalooza demonstrate her undeniable crossover potential. Their remixes for artists such as Depeche Mode, Moby, Hot Chip, Kings of Leon, Woodkid, The Knife and many others also bear witness to this.

The duo were inducted into Pete Tong's Hall of Fame on BBC Radio 1 and have received strong support from the station throughout their career. They also played at the "40 Years of Radio 1" celebration with Annie Nightingale and at the "20 Years of Essential Mix" party. They were also responsible for compiling Pete Tong's "All Gone Ibiza" compilation album.

With their own label Blaufield Music, founded in 2013, Booka Shade show their expertise not only as producers but also as talented A&Rs. The label releases work from emerging and established artists as well as their own productions and regularly features in the upper echelons of the Beatport Top 100 charts, supported by the biggest names in the industry.

In addition to their role as musical trailblazers, Booka Shade also use technological developments to further develop their music. One example is their collaboration with Dolby and Dolby Atmos, which began in 2017 when they re-recorded their album 'Galvany Street' for a special Dolby Atmos 3D audio Blu-ray edition. Mixed by Fritz Hilpert, who also worked on Kraftwerk's "3D - The Catalog", this fruitful partnership continued with a new version of their album "Dear Future Self", which was nominated for Best Immersive Audio Album at the 63rd GRAMMY Awards.

After twenty years, numerous EPs and nine albums, Booka Shade have long been more than just a household name. They are emblematic of the spirit that drives electronic music and set a standard by which electronic music is still measured today.

The night will be supported by Allis.Dee from the Rheintaumeln crew and almost all BergWacht residents.
