Bigband des Pestalozzi-Gymnasiums

This should set a precedent in Germany. There is an educational institution in Munich where several ensembles prepare students for a possible future career as jazz musicians. The crown jewel of the school is the Pestalozzi Gymnasium’s big band. Many of those who honed their skills in this large ensemble went on to establish themselves in the jazz scene, which is why the Süddeutsche Zeitung has described it as a sort of “mini-Berklee School of Music.”

In today’s program, the orchestra, led by Vitaly Burtsev and Christoph Hobmair, will perform the diverse repertoire it has most recently developed, featuring compositions by Bob Mintzer and Gordon Goodwin, among others. Throughout the evening, smaller combos led by Vitaly Burtsev and Korbinian Bauer will also showcase their talent, as will ensembles led by the musicians themselves, featuring long-acclaimed rising stars who hail from the Pestalozzi Gymnasium’s talent incubator.
