Bill Charlap Trio

Bill Charlap's piano playing is of timeless elegance - swinging, breathing jazz history with every bar, classical through and through, but also gently modernizing. The native New Yorker has perfected the art of the piano trio since he formed his first three-piece with the Washington brothers on bass and drums a good twenty years ago. In this classic line-up, Bill Charlap has released numerous albums on which he has collected the treasures of the Great American Songbook and performed his own compositions.

Bill Charlap has a musical background - his father is a Broadway composer, his mother a singer. His son began playing the piano at the age of three, then trained in classical music, but never lost sight of his early love, jazz. As a young man, he was allowed to accompany Gerry Mullgan, Benny Carter and Phil Woods. He would later become one of the most sought-after sidemen on the jazz scene.

Apart from this, he also made a name for himself as curator of various series and as a lecturer. His collaboration with legendary crooner Tony Bennett earned him a Grammy in 2016. Bill Charlap recently hit the positive headlines with his duo with the great diva Dee Dee Bridgewater.
