Johannes Enders / Roberto di Gioia & The Organauts
In the organizer's words:
In reference to Jason and the adventures—the journeys into the unknown—he undertook with his companions aboard the ship Argo, two luminaries of German jazz named their project: Johannes Enders/Roberto di Gioia & The Organauts. Of course, the band’s name contains another allusion: the organ—played by Renato Chicco—features prominently in their music. Together with drummer Peter Gall, saxophonist Enders, keyboardist/bassist di Gioia, and organist Chicco promise us, during their Jazz Summer Week, music they describe as: Miles Davis’s *Bitches Brew* meets Eddie Harris.
The sound of this all-star quartet thrives on many contrasts that magically attract one another: certainty and experimentation, tradition and modernity, ’60s jazz and the present, dense texture and openness, fat grooves and sonic freedom. Yet nothing is truly in opposition to one another. Everything comes together to form a pulsating, wild, boundary-pushing, hypnotic, spiritually infused whole. And musical surprises await around every turn this ensemble takes.
