"Whoever writes a poem in France, writes a chanson" noted Boris Vian. And anyone who hears a chanson hears a poem. A poem that usually has only one theme: L'amour - love.
With their new program "Pour l'Amour", Birgit Süß (vocals) and Klaus Ratzek (double bass & tuba) want to breathe new musical life into the beloved French chansons - with unusual new arrangements and above all an unusual instrumentation - double bass and tuba.
The duo's duet of voice and these instruments, which are challenging for a duo, succeed in giving well-known chansons - such as "Hymne a l'Amour", "je ne regrette rien" or "Ne me quitte pas" - a very special charm.
Among other things, they perform chansons by the Môme, Edith Piaf; songs that evoke a bygone era in which people lived for the day - a sweet escape from reality, if only for an evening.
The "Sparrow of Paris" often said "The chanson only tells a story, but the audience must be able to believe it!". She sang about love, jealousy and separation. She sang about her own eventful life - and chansons such as "Milord" or "je ne regrette rien" made her immortal.
The chanson has not lost its charisma to this day. With charm, empathy and delight, Birgit Süß interprets the "old" songs of longing and pain, of happiness and power.
