A dance piece by Cota Projects

Five dancers on stage, five people navigating within and between cultures. They tell their stories through the movements of their bodies. They reveal their personal maps to the audience: experiences that guide them; memories that shape their expression and rhythm. In the space we all share during the dance piece, questions arise such as “What belongs to us? What is rooted in our origins—and which ones? What is familiar, and what is foreign?” 

Together with the dancers, Julie Pécard and Jonas Frey of COTA projects have developed a choreography for their dance piece BORROW that explores personal approaches to sharing, passing on, and appropriating. BORROW explores how cultural forms of expression circulate between bodies, contexts, and cultures: how they are part of us, yet not our personal property.

COTA projects was founded in 2025 by Julie Pécard and Jonas Frey as a platform for dance and co-creation in Mannheim and stands for Choreography, Outreach, Teaching, and Artistic Research.
