Buchvorstellung & Gespräch: Peter Brandt – Sich ändern, um sich treu zu bleiben
In the organizer's words:
If the political history of the Federal Republic of Germany since the 1960s is reflected inasingle biography, it is that of historian Peter Brandt. Born in 1948, the eldest son of Willy and Rut Brandt struck out on his own early on: He was active in the protest movement of the late 1960s, stood trial for offenses related to demonstrations, and was friends with Rudi Dutschke. At times, the political divide between him and his father was wide—yet the bond between them never broke. Since the mid-1970s, their political views have grown closer again.
On September 29 at 7:00 p.m., Peter Brandt will speak at the Friedrich-Ebert-Haus about his autobiography, “Changing to Remain True to Oneself.” In conversation with Prof. Dr. Bernd Braun, the foundation’s executive director, they will discuss political upheavals and personal experiences, his relationship with his father, the protest movement of the 1960s, and the question of how political convictions can change without abandoning one’s core values. The discussion will also touch on the current state of our democracy.
