Sonderausstellung: Jupp Darchinger. Das Auge der Republik

2025 marked the 100th anniversary of the birth of photographer Jupp Darchinger, who accompanied and documented the actors and social developments of the Bonn Republic like no other photojournalist. As a critical chronicler, Darchinger shaped the visual memory of an entire era. His photographs of personalities such as Willy Brandt and Helmut Schmidt have become icons of contemporary history.

The Friedrich-Ebert-Haus is showing the slightly modified anniversary exhibition of the LVR-Landesmuseum Bonn. It was created in cooperation with the Archive of Social Democracy of the Friedrich Ebert Foundation, which preserves and scientifically catalogs the estate of Jupp Darchinger. In addition to prominent motifs, previously largely unknown works will be exhibited, opening up new perspectives on Darchinger's unique pictorial cosmos.

Among the highlights of the exhibition are so-called "theme pictures", which make the political and economic upheaval after the Second World War visible, while at the same time focusing on the social upheavals of the Bonn Republic - from the 1973 oil crisis to the peace and emancipation movement and the migration debate of the 1980s.
