In the organizer's words:
CARA inspire audiences worldwide with their unique interpretations of Celtic music, firmly rooted in Irish and Scottish tradition. With innovative arrangements of traditional pieces and widely acclaimed original compositions, they create an unmistakable sound.
The vocal spectrum ranges from dreamy ballads and archaic Gaelic mouth music to their own songs with current socio-political relevance, with the two lead singers Gudrun Walther and Kim Edgar always complementing each other with dreamlike confidence. The songs alternate with fast-paced instrumental pieces that thrive on the virtuoso interplay of fiddle and uilleann pipes. The Irish bagpipes, which were declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2017, are played by Simon Pfisterer, who studied this extraordinary instrument in Ireland.
What also makes CARA special is the interaction between guitar and piano and the band's unusual, rhythmically and harmonically rich arrangements. They bear the signature of Jürgen Treyz, guitarist, producer and musical mastermind of the band.
The multinational line-up of Irish, Scottish and German musicians may have changed over the 23 years of the band's history, but one thing has remained the same: the close friendship at the heart of this musical collaboration - in the spirit of the Irish word "cara", which means "friend".
