ColognePride: Q'ARIWARMI – Indigene Perspektiven auf Queerness
In the organizer's words:
What ideas of gender and identity existed in indigenous societies - long before colonial power structures repressed them?
This tour invites you to get to know diverse historical and cultural perspectives on queerness and to reflect on the effects of colonization on alternative gender images and queer lifestyles.
The focus is on indigenous concepts of community, spirituality and identity from South America, which often recognize more than two genders, such as the concept of Q'ariwarmi (Quechua: "man-woman"). They enable social roles beyond Western categories. Together we will explore the question of how colonial violence, missionary work and European norms contributed to the persecution and marginalization of these identities - and which traces, resistances and re-appropriations are still visible today.
The guided tour is part of the intervention "THE FUTURE IS INDIGENOUS".
