Many musicians pursue the dream of making unique music they love and being successful with it. Only a few succeed in realizing this: Dead Poet Society are one of them. With their authentic rock sound, the band from Los Angeles breaks the established conventions and has long since become more than an insider tip for music nerds. Their single ".intoodeep." has over 16 million streams on Spotify, where more than 440,000 people listen to their music every month. In the past 3 years Dead Poet Society played at Download Festival (UK), 2000 Trees, Tons Of Rock, Rocklahoma, Pinkpop, Aftershock and Rock For People, furthermore they toured several times in the USA, Europe as well as UK, among others as support for Badflower. Early next year, the band will return to Germany for 4 shows: In the period from February 22 to March 10, they can be experienced in Munich, Berlin, Hamburg and Cologne.
Musically comparable to a metallic version of Twenty One Pilots, the US answer to Muse and an impetuous but determined alt-pop drive familiar from Bring Me The Horizon, Dead Poet Society write their own musical language - full of experimental versatility. The fact that their music stands out from the music of other bands early on may have something to do with the fact that all four musicians studied in Boston at Berklee College of Music, where they also founded the band in the early 2010s. If you take a deeper look at their music, it quickly becomes clear how much finesse and heart and soul are in the instrumentals, which gain catchiness especially with the terrific hooks of Jack Underkofler. At the same time, the music of Dead Poet Society is complex, but never cerebral.
Already in 2013 Dead Poet Society released their first EP "Weapons". It took another year until their single "Sound and Silence" 2014 provided for greater awareness. With "Axiom" (2015) and "Dempsey" (2016), 2 EPs followed alongside some singles, such as the successful track "American Blood" (2018). In 2019, the band toured the US supporting Badflower. In 2020 they signed with Spinefarm Records and in 2021 they released their debut album
"-!". Tracks like ".CoDA." master a balancing act between Southern Rock, progressive borrowings and influences that can be clearly located in metal, while ".SALT." rolls in oppressive atmosphere with low-pitched nu-metal guitars à la Korn. Straightforwardness is not an attribute that should be ascribed to Dead Poet Society 's music. Their music delivers what other bands promise but rarely deliver: a completely individual, authentic sound that is difficult to categorize.
Similarly independent, bombastic and driving as the band's debut album, the new single "Running In Circles", which will be released on September 7, 2023, shows a first appetizer of Dead Poet Society 's constantly reinventing sound. The band's return to Germany in early 2024 follows a sold-out headline show in Hannover, Germany in June 2023. Support will then be Ready The Prince from Toronto.
