Hallo Hamburg! Demokratiewoche @ LIFE Hamburg

A week full of encounters, conversations, and ideas for living together. 

We’re new to the city. That’s why we’re inviting you to join us for our first little “Democracy Week” around German Unity Day. Not because we have all the answers, but because we’re curious. We’re curious about you and your perspectives on questions like: How do we want to live together in the future? How can we foster meaningful social dialogue? What does freedom mean today? And what role does our own attitude play in a vibrant democracy? 

September 28 – October 3, 2026 

Together with exciting initiatives, artists, partners, and civil society organizations, we’re creating spaces for exchange, connection, and new perspectives. 

Democracy Week also marks the kickoff of our new discussion series, “How do we actually want to live together?” Starting this fall, we plan to open our doors regularly and come together to discuss the issues that matter to us all. 

Program 

The program events are currently being developed in collaboration with our network and will be updated regularly throughout the summer. 

Planned events include: 

• Open after-work discussions on freedom of expression and social cohesion  

• Interactive sessions on fake news, conspiracy theories, and media literacy  

• Intergenerational exchanges on climate, responsibility, and social change  

• Exhibitions and artistic perspectives on freedom, fundamental rights, and living together  

• Community film screenings, readings, and personal stories about freedom, courage, and moral courage  

We’ll be releasing the program gradually over the course of the summer. So mark the week on your calendar and check back here regularly! 

Who is it for? 

For anyone who wants to actively help shape our society. Whether young or old, politically engaged or simply curious—Democracy Week is for everyone who wants to talk with one another rather than about one another. You don’t need any prior knowledge—just an open mind.
