The Great Silk Road
An intercultural musical journey full of irony, comedy, tragedy and reconciliation
What does music mean to us? We listen to music and cry, we laugh, we fall in love. It connects people across borders and touches our hearts.
This is exactly what the project "The Great Silk Road" is all about. It creates a dialog between cultures and brings us into conversation, builds bridges and removes fear of contact. With music from Monteverdi, Dufay and Merula to Byzantine composers, this concert program spans a musical arc between the centers of political activity along what was once the most important trade route, linking Venice with Istanbul, Athens with Baghdad and Isfahan."
Performers:
ANIMA SHIRVANI is an ensemble specializing in historical performance practice that creates a link between European Renaissance and Baroque music and traditional music from Persia, the Caucasus and Anatolia.
The choirs MUSICA MUNDI (Cologne) and CANTICA NOVA (Neuss) will perform the vocal part in this project.
