Sehnsucht nach meiner Stimme – Rom*nja lesen ihre Textproduktionen

In the organizer's words:

It takes courage to read your own texts to an unknown audience - and even more courage to write and read them in a language that has only recently been learned. The texts deal with personal hopes, wishes and worries. The authors provide insights into the realities of their lives and open up new perspectives. Before writing longer texts, the authors started with haikus, a Japanese poetry form that contains short sentences and a specific syllable structure. This was followed by longer prose texts.

From May 21 to 24, 2026, the Rautenstrauch-Joest-Museum will host a series of events in cooperation with the Rom e. V. association in which Roma and Sinti*zze will speak for themselves. The focus is on their voices, experiences and perspectives: it is about self-determination, resistance and the strength and confidence that arise from creative processes.

After the reading, we invite you to share and reflect.
