What kind of story is this - a heroic epic? A love drama? Or simply an exciting story about friendship and betrayal? The play is a fast-paced game about the knight Siegfried, who - equipped with his cloak of invisibility - helps his new friend King Gunther to love happiness and at the same time plunges him into ruin. For only by deception does Gunther succeed in defeating Queen Brunhild and bringing her home as his bride. When the deception becomes obvious, disaster takes its course.
