Michel Foucault, one of France's most important philosophers, died in 1984. His influence on politics and culture remains unbroken to this day. In 1989, the writer, sociologist and philosopher Didier Eribon ("Return to Reims") published a biography of the thinker that is more than just a retelling of Foucault's life: It is a tribute to a great life's work and an insurgent against the violence of norms and normality. Eribon's biography of Foucault has already become a classic in its own right.
