»Ein Nobody gegen Putin« mit Pavel Talankin

Screening of the Oscar-winning documentary, followed by a discussion with the protagonist and director, Pavel Talankin.

Pavel Talankin, a teacher who also works as a video chronicler and event organizer at his school, is revered by his students. His office is a safe haven for anyone who needs support or wants to talk in confidence. But with the outbreak of the war against Ukraine, everyday school life changes: The children are once again learning about the glorious victories of the Soviet Union; they read the “correct” answers aloud in class; and mercenaries from the Wagner Group give “patriotism lessons” and showcase their weapons.

Pavel’s role at the school also changes dramatically. Against his will, he is drawn into Putin’s propaganda machine and forced to spread government-sanctioned messages. Horrified by the changes at his school, he struggles with feelings of guilt and powerlessness. When he learns that his own life might be in danger, he decides to flee Russia.
