ENTZUG. Christoph Peters liest aus seinem autobiographischen Roman

The road back to sobriety is a long one. Withdrawal tells of the inconspicuous beginning of a writer's alcohol addiction and his attempt to escape it. At the beginning: a Monday afternoon and a bottle of vodka on the table of a family of three - did the narrator put it there on purpose or simply forget about it? At first, the writer drinks to write, think and feel. Soon he only drinks to drink. Finally, he is faced with the question: drink and die or stop and live? He admits himself to a clinic. With ruthless honesty, Withdrawal describes the logic of addiction, the betrayal of family, friends and himself. At the same time, he tells of hope and the path back to a sober life worth living.

Christoph Peters (*1966 in Kalkar) studied painting in Karlsruhe. His debut novel Stadt. Land. Fluss. was awarded the Aspekte Literature Prize. This was followed by numerous novels and short story collections as well as several literary awards, including the Schubart Literature Prize 2025. Innerstädtischer Tod, the final part of a trilogy based on Wolfgang Koeppen, was recently published. Peters now lives in Berlin with his wife and their daughter.

The event takes place in cooperation with the Cultural Office of the City of Giessen in the Hermann-Levi-Saal (concert hall in the town hall, Berliner Platz 1, 35390 Giessen). Prof. Dr. Sascha Feuchert will moderate the event. Admission is €8, reduced €6 and €4 for LZG members. Access to the venue is wheelchair accessible.
