The stylized and formal plant photographs by Karl Blossfeldt (1865-1932), which are currently on display in the Photographic Collection/SK Stiftung Kultur in Cologne's Mediapark, are among the classics of photography and art history. The photographs were taken between around 1900 and 1930 and were used by Blossfeldt in his artistic teaching to familiarize his students with the variety of forms and details of the botanical world. To this day, the special charm of Blossfeldt's photographs lies in the way in which he portrayed the plants removed from their natural environment, sometimes altering them in advance to make them look like sculptures or ornaments. The guided tour of the flora focuses in particular on plants that Karl Blossfeldt selected for his pictorial studies. His individual approach to nature and his artistic approach are thus illustrated in comparison.
Registration for the guided tour of the Flora includes the opportunity to visit Karl Blossfeldt's exhibition in Cologne's Mediapark, including the public Sunday tour (every Sunday, 3 p.m., presentation of booking confirmation).
