The current escalation of violence in Israel and Palestine and the increasing division that accompanies it leaves many of us speechless and is associated with strong feelings of powerlessness, sadness, frustration, anger and helplessness.
Especially at this time, it is important to listen to people who still believe in a different reality and are working towards it: A reality that includes peace, security, equal rights and sustainable development for all people in Israel and Palestine.
We invite you to meet Osama Illiwat and Rotem Levin and listen to their stories. As peace activists from Israel and Palestine, they believe that a different - a non-violent - way is possible. They are members of the Israeli-Palestinian organization "Combatants for Peace" and have become friends and partners on their path of change: They share their personal stories with us, talk about the never-ending cycle of violence in the Middle East and what gives them hope and strength in these difficult times.
The lecture will be held in English with simultaneous translation into German. The lecture will be followed by a Q&A session. Afterwards, you are invited to share your impressions over a drink.
Our guests:
Osama Iliwat is on the board of Combatants for Peace and founder of the organization Visit Palestine. He dedicates his life to the resistance against the Israeli occupation and at the same time helps to build close relations between Palestinians and Israelis. Osama Iliwat regularly speaks to organizations around the world about the Middle East conflict and ways to build peace. He lives in Jericho, in the Israeli-occupied territories, aka Palestine.
Rotem Levin is an Israeli activist and doctor who is involved in social projects in his home country. During his medical studies at Ben Gurion University in Beer Sheva, he studied Arabic intensively and became close friends with Palestinians. He is particularly interested in healing the collective traumas of Israelis and Palestinians.
