Subespai
Subespai is Mauri Edo, a sound artist based in Menorca. He uses found sounds, repetition, and volume to explore existence, society, and the self. His work has been presented at festivals such as Radiophrenia, Ultrasons, and Celobert, and has been released on labels including Naviar Records, Audiotalaia, and now Oxtail Recordings.
“Saints” is a long ambient work that Subespai composed after a long hiatus upon his return to music. The album, based on reflections on isolation, the changing of the seasons, and the emotional facets of island life, conveys a renewed connection to artistic practice.
Each track is based on a field recording of a traditional melody from the Menorcan town of Alaior, associated with the local festivities honoring Saint Lawrence and Saint Anthony. Guided by abstract visual scores, Subespai weaves these fragments into expansive soundscapes where drones, sound textures, and memory converge—with echoes of Balago and Machinefabriek.
