Subespai is Mauri Edo, a sound artist based in Menorca. He uses found sounds, repetition and volume to explore existence, society and the self. His work has been presented at festivals such as Radiophrenia, Ultrasons and Celobert and has been released on labels such as Naviar Records, Audiotalaia and now Oxtail Recordings.
"Saints" is a long ambient work composed by Subespai after a long break following his return to music. The album, based on reflections on isolation, the changing seasons and the emotional facets of island life, conveys a renewed connection to artistic practice.
Each track is based on a field recording of a traditional melody from the Menorcan town of Alaior, associated with the local festivities in honor of Saint Lawrence and Saint Anthony. Guided by abstract visual scores, Subespai weaves these fragments into expansive soundscapes where drones, sonic textures and memory converge - with echoes of Balago and Machinefabriek.
