We must urgently ask ourselves a pragmatic question: If more than half of the world’s population lives below the poverty line, shouldn’t we immediately change our approach to architecture and housing?
A relatively new movement in Latin American architecture has asked itself what it can learn from simple structures created by people who build far removed from capitalist models. The documentary *HACER MUCHO CON POCO* by Chilean journalist and filmmaker Katerina Kliwadenko (b. 1985) and Spanish architect Mario Novas (b. 1977) shows how young architects in Latin America are working toward a paradigm shift. They are doing so by developing a new understanding of how their profession interacts with society. The film explores how architecture and the architectural profession might evolve in a forward-looking way if an alternative economic model were in place. The film highlights specific construction projects that prioritize local resources and natural materials.
