Heinrich Heine's poem "Ich weiß nicht was soll es bedeuten" (I don't know what it means) about the fair maiden who involuntarily causes the boatmen in the Rhine Valley to fall into the floods is undisputedly the best-known poem in the Loreley saga. The poem celebrated a milestone "birthday" this year: it turned 200 years old on March 26, 2024.
Every birthday also includes a present. To mark the anniversary, Falko Hönisch, Mayor of Sankt Goar an der Loreley, together with the "Bonn specialist for the subject of Heine in music" Martin Wiemer, initiated a songbook with ten settings of the poem - including those by famous composers such as Franz Liszt and Clara Schumann, as well as lesser-known pieces by Johanna Kinkel and Heinrich Proch.
The Loreley settings will be performed and interpreted on this evening by Caroline Montheit (soprano) and Falko Hönisch (baritone), accompanied on the piano by André
Dolabella. Martin Wiemer will moderate the event.
An event in cooperation with the Heinrich Heine Society.
