Christine "Lady Bird" McPherson's (Saoirse Ronan) everyday life in Sacramento, California, consists of high school routine, family troubles and her first sobering experiences with boys. So it's no wonder that the 17-year-old dreams of growing up. In real life, she rebels against the confines of her parents' home with passion and stubbornness. But her mother (Laurie Metcalf) doesn't make it all too easy for the headstrong and bright teenager to cut the cord, and so they both repeatedly pull out all the emotional stops between defiance, anger and resignation.
