For Mabel Tanaka (voice in English original: Piper Curda), nature is inseparable from those she loves. A forest clearing, where she often took her grandmother, is particularly close to her heart. There she can still find peace and quiet and escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life. But this little gem away from the town of Beaverton is soon to come to an end. Mayor Jerry Generazzo (Jon Hamm) is in the middle of an election campaign and wants to secure his re-election with a mega-project: the construction of a highway. The highway is to be concreted right through the forest, of all places, and Mabel's beloved clearing is to be destroyed in the process. Mabel comes up with a bold plan to put a stop to this. Her university professor Dr. Sam (Kathy Najimy) has developed a technology that can transfer a human's consciousness into robotic animals. Mabel then slips her consciousness into a beaver and sets off for the forest to form alliances with the other animals against the highway construction.
