Anyone who grew up in the ’90s still remembers that carefree spirit. Summers are warm. Ice cream is cheap. Men are men, and women are women. And young girls are supposed to be thrilled when middle-aged pop singers lift them up onto the stage. How sweet is that?

During this time, our protagonist, as a young girl, dreams of her first kiss. Later, she finances her doctoral thesis by selling sex. Any apparent causal connections are, of course, pure coincidence. But what at first seems like a lucrative side job soon pushes her to her limits. Because suddenly, unpleasant patterns repeat themselves, and casual humiliations escalate into the grotesque. Not even Shinrin Yoku can help with that. … Shinrin what?

María Velasco revels with relish in the quagmire of gender inequality. At the end of this lighthearted reckoning, we find ourselves in a radical tree therapy session.
