1832: Évariste Galois, just 20 years old and heartbroken, dies from a gunshot wound to the abdomen. On the night before the duel, he quickly jots down a mathematical theory that will make him world-famous. The revolutionary and opponent of the king had only just been released from prison… Galois’s story has everything it takes to make a gripping period film. For now, however, this film can only be seen in the images and reflections of a screenwriter who, during a sleepless night, jumps back and forth between the July Revolution and the present. The Author 

Ulrich Peltzer, born in Krefeld in 1956, studied philosophy and psychology in Berlin, where he has lived since 1975. He has published the novels *Die Sünden der Faulheit* (1987), *Stefan Martinez* (1995), “’Alle oder keiner’” (1999), “Bryant Park” (2002), and “Teil der Lösung” (2007), as well as the Frankfurt Poetry Lectures “Angefangen wird mittendrin” (2011). His work has been honored with numerous awards, including the SWR Best List Prize, the Düsseldorf Literature Prize, andthe Heinrich Böll Prize. Ulrich Peltzer’s novel “Das bessere Leben” (2015) was shortlisted for the German Book Prize and was honored with the Marieluise Fleißer Prize, the Peter Weiss Prize, and the Franz Hessel Prize, among others. His most recent novels are *Das bist du* (2021) and *Der Ernst des Lebens* (2024).
