Inutile de Fuir or: "No reason to run away"
Lecture, listening session and screening with Friedemann Dupelius

In 2017, director Kevin El Amrani-Lince documented the everyday life of the French collective Casual Gabberz between parties, hanging out and soccer. His "hybrid film" Inutile de Fuir is in black and white and, despite all the strobo thunderstorms, also slows down the pace to allow time for reflection. How does this movement position itself between nostalgia, zeitgeist and futurism - today, when music in clubs and TikTok has become insanely fast again? In a mix of screening, lecture, listening session and YouTube set, Friedemann Dupelius asks: Why and how are genres that were once spurned so hip today and what does this have to do with class, self-empowerment and fiction?

Friedemann Dupelius was socialized around y2k with fast, euphoric sounds. As a musician, DJ and author, he sets out from there to question the present. His project On Fridays (ReBirth) (SPA Recordings, 2024) is a mix of remix compilation and fanzine that reflects on a past as an online trance kid in the 00s.

Sonotopias

In cooperation with the association Sonische Interferenzen e.V., the Filmwerkstatt's Sonotopien series is dedicated to the audiovisual representation of sound, technology, musical practice and auditory cultural techniques. In the form of documentaries and feature films, the series focuses on (electro)acoustic innovations and compositional practices, on the musical visions and legacy of important protagonists and lesser-known marginal figures of the acoustic avant-garde, as well as on the resonances between ideology, power and sound. The film programme is complemented by lectures and discussions that serve to contextualize, deepen and expand the cinematic subjects.
