MASTERCLASS: JON RAFMAN

In his works, Jon Rafman (1981, Montréal) deals with the often blurred border between the real and virtual worlds. He is interested in Internet (sub)cultures, their codes, communities and temporary alliances. As a kind of amateur anthropologist, he uses their visual worlds to describe the present, penetrating far into the narratives of the net, to collective fears, desires and their visual residues. In recent years, Rafman has used AI-supported image generators to create works that seem like hallucinations of the internet itself: feverish visions of machines whose training data comes from the network and which, with the help of appropriate prompts, make its fringes and abysses visible.

The masterclass was part of the project Latent Space - Latency Spaces of Art (2025) and will be repeated because it had to be canceled at the time. The project was realized with the kind support of the Kunststiftung NRW and the Ministry of Culture and Science NRW. The master class will take place parallel to Rafman's exhibition at K21.
