Until now, contemporary dance has not been one of the special features of Los Angeles, this city of film, art and music. This is now being changed by 34-year-old Jacob Jonas, who started out as a skateboarder and street performer, founded his own company with Jill Wilson at the age of 21 and has also choreographed dance for a global audience with works for superstars from Rosalía to SZA and Elton John. He is now presenting a world premiere of a stage work in Europe for the first time: KEEPING SCORE is a trilogy of three major dance works in which Jonas deals with his childhood, cancer and recovery. He has collaborated with Oscar winner Antonio Sánchez ("Birdman"), among others, whose live drum score characterizes the first part PRODUCT OF DIVORCE, which deals with the childhood trauma of a child of divorce. The second part NATURE SOUNDS WHILE THE IV DRIPS then shows the physical battle against cancer, while the third part RESTART reflects on healing and new beginnings. This dance evening reflects Jacob Jonas' interdisciplinary approach, which also includes installations and films, and is a unique experience of emotional depth with a hyper-intense physical dance language from breaking to balletic leaps.
