Jelgava '94

The year is 1994 in the Latvian provincial town of Jelgava. Jānis is 14 years old and trying to find his place in the world, while newly independent Latvia is in a state of social and economic turmoil. Between school, first love and the search for belonging, he discovers the rebellious world of heavy metal music and through it a community of other young people who don't want to fit in.

Jānis starts to spend a lot of time with the other outsiders, who are several years older than him, but behind the energetic moments on rooftops and underground parties, there are also doubts, family challenges and questions about his own future. The film is based on the author's own experiences and is an authentic look at growing up.
