DEU 2024 D: Media collective Leftvision (Marco Heinig, Steffen Maurer). Documentary. 96 min. FSK: 16
1992, Rostock-Lichtenhagen, neo-Nazis storm apartment blocks, the neighborhood sympathizes - the Antifa opposes. The anti-fascist movement also grew stronger in reaction to the unspeakable right-wing extremist violence after the end of the GDR. Five activists speak publicly for the first time about their actions, ranging from mitigating resistance against Nazis to political education and investigative work - because the state did little to counter the pogroms. (And the government tightened asylum laws as a concession to the fascists...) The interviews and diverse archive material show the vacuum in which the Antifa of the 1990s developed. And the present shows that the anti-fascist struggle must continue. "Successful, multi-layered self-reflection of the anti-fascist movement." (taz)
