The director and writer Doris Dörrie (most recently: Die Reisgöttin - und andere Mitbringsel) has been deeply connected to Japan for years. And not just on a personal level, but also on an artistic one: she has made over 30 trips there, and Japan plays a central role in her work. She has set a total of five of her films there, including her successful film Cherry Blossoms - Hanami and its sequel Cherry Blossoms & Demons; her writing includes reflections on travel in general and on Japan in particular. She talks about her fascination with the country's culture, art and society, about the diverse experiences that each visit brings with it, about the attraction of the island nation. And about the foreignness that it sometimes takes to discover new things about one's own identity. Mod.: Knut Elstermann
