Winning the Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw catapulted Bruce Liu to the top of the international music scene in 2021. Celebrated for his "breathtakingly beautiful playing" (BBC Music Magazine), the young Chinese-Canadian pianist with the "fingers of a magician" (Le Monde) has been wowing audiences ever since. Chopin is of course also part of his Bremen debut, but embedded in a program that traces the developments in piano music from the 19th to the 20th century. Without Beethoven's groundbreaking "Waldstein Sonata", the breakneck virtuosity of Franz Liszt's Rhapsodie espagnole would probably never have existed, while Maurice Ravel and Claude Debussy created shimmering key works of French Impressionism with their subtle brilliance. With his phenomenal playing technique and exquisite touch as well as his feel for changing nuances of color and sound, Bruce Liu can once again illustrate the importance of piano playing in his life: "Music has a power that helps me clear my soul" - go for it!
