Kostprobe «Die verkaufte Braut»

This time: “The Bartered Bride,” an opera by Bedřich Smetana, which will premiere on October 24 at the Stadttheater’s Main Stage.

About the opera: 
It’s fair season. Amid polkas, beer, and popular tunes, Marie and Hans have a problem: They want to get married, but Marie has been promised to the wealthy Wenzel. She reacts quickly and turns the situation to her advantage. Hans, on the other hand, lets himself be persuaded by a shady matchmaker to give up Marie for 300 guilders—unaware that contracts reveal more than they state. With Bohemian sounds, Bedřich Smetana composed a comedy in 1866 full of energy and unforgettable melodies. A play of mistaken identities, calculation, and love that combines seriousness and lightheartedness.
