In 1970, Freddie Mercury (Rami Malek) and his bandmates Brian May (Gwilym Lee), Roger Taylor (Ben Hardy), and John Deacon (Joseph Mazzello) formed the band Queen. The four men quickly enjoyed their first successes and soon produced hit after hit, but behind the band’s façade, things were far from rosy: Freddie Mercury, whose real name is Farrokh Bulsara and who hails from what is now Tanzania, struggles with his inner turmoil and tries to come to terms with his homosexuality. Eventually, Mercury leaves Queen to launch a solo career, but soon realizes that without his bandmates, he’s lost. Although he has since contracted AIDS, he manages to round up his bandmates one last time and deliver one of the most legendary performances in music history at Live Aid…
