Künstlergespräch mit Laurenz Berges

In the series "The Becher House in Mudersbach", Laurenz Berges (*1966) explores the history of a half-timbered house in Siegerland that has been used for three generations and has become a kind of monument in its own unique way. It was originally the house of Bernd Becher's (1931-2007) grandparents, then occupied by his two aunts. Bernd Becher loved the house from childhood and later cherished it as an occasional domicile with his own family. Different biographies intertwine in this environment, which is reflected in the furnishings of the rooms and the numerous legacies. It often seems as if time has stood still.

In the paintings of Bernd Becher's master student at the Düsseldorf Academy of Art, the aspect of time comes to the fore in a heightened form. The subdued lighting that characterizes his compositions contributes to the atmospheric density.
