KURZFILM IM VEEDEL

In the organizer's words:

SHORT FILM IN THE VEEDEL
"Dude, What's happening?"
Wednesday, April 24, 7:30 pm
Free admission, donation welcome!

How can we feel the ageing process? How can we connect with our grandparents? How multifaceted is the portrait of my mother or the account of my grandfather? Ageing people look back on social conventions, role expectations and their own confrontation with them - sometimes painfully, sometimes humorously.
Our short film program shows old criminals, a grandmother as a cinematic special effect dummy, tenderly humorous everyday stories and does not stop at the confrontation with sexuality. Dude, What's happening?

On the occasion of the exhibition "Blick in die Zeit: Alter und Altern im photographischen Porträt" of the Photographic Collection of the SK Stiftung Kultur, we focus on the visibility of age in short film in very different facets.

Guest in conversation: Simon Dickel, director of the film "Ready for Ransom"

Kurzfilm im Veedel also brings short film to the big screen outside the inner-city hot spots. The "Kurzfilm im Veedel" series of events shows short film programs across genres and genres on current topics and controversial issues, with the aim of making short film tangible and visible to as many people as possible. Despite its artistic density and social relevance, short film has little presence in the commercial cinema landscape. We want to draw more attention to short film and the filmmakers of this genre, train critical viewing in the context of entertaining short film programs and create feature-length entertainment for as wide an audience as possible. We want to try to establish a local connection to the short film programs in the Veedel and create a space for exchange between filmmakers, audience and locally committed actors from the Veedel in the subsequent film discussion.

The films in the program:

Danielle
(US, Anthony Cerniello, Experimental, 2014, 5')
Something is constantly happening, but you can't see what it is. Only feel it, like ageing itself.

Margie Soudek's Salt and Pepper Shakers (US, Meredith Moore, experimental documentary, 2023, 13')
An artist and VFX teacher connects with her aging grandmother Margie in a documentary about collecting, art-making and obsession as a way to improve our reality.

Endless Sea (US, Sam Shainbergn, feature film, 2022, 19')
Carol begins a normal day when she realizes that the price of her heart medication has doubled. Frightened, but not without hope, she sets out in search of a solution, but her journey leads not to redemption, but only to a desperate act of revolution.

Ready for Ransom (D, Simon Dickel, documentary, 2022, 17')
In Ready for Ransom, the protagonist Ransom Bradford (1937-2013) talks about the reasons behind his decision to start electroshock therapy in order to become heterosexual.

Growingold (CH, Andrea Bürgi, short documentary, 2004, 7')
In this multifaceted and at the same time tender portrait, filmmaker Andrea Bürgi documents the everyday life of her 80-year-old mother. In addition to arguments with her landlords, a meditative dance circle and playing the violin, she also talks about moments in her life that have led her to where she is now.

My grandfather Wolfgang (D, Hannes Schilling, 2012, 11')
Grandfather Wolfgang fell in love again at the age of 84, only a short time after the death of his grandmother. The internet acquaintance turned into a real love affair - not a breach of taboo, but a wonderful new beginning.
