Leenalchi (Luaka Bop, Hike/KR) *live*

Leenalchi is a seven-piece alternative band from Seoul Korea and shows how experimental and avant-garde the South Korean music scene is. In the very best post-punk style, they reinterpret the Korean narrative genre Pansori, which is characterized by a special style of performance with vocals and percussion, with influences from funk, new wave, rock and disco. By breaking down and rearranging traditional elements with modern musical stylistic devices, combined with a funky freedom reminiscent of the Talking Heads, they create music that is excitingly forward-looking while preserving tradition. Their line-up is as unique as their sound: two basses, drums, keyboard, no guitar and several singers.

The band has announced their first releases outside Korea for this year; the EP "Here Comes That Crow" was released in April as a precursor to the album "Tiger Is Coming", both on David Byrne's label Luaka Bop, where else?
