Lesung - "Dabei waren wir uns immer so nah" von Jette Kötschau

Henri, Merle, and Katharina actually thought their friendship would never change—that it would always remain easy, carefree, and a given. But now, in their early thirties, their daily lives are drifting further and further apart, and daily get-togethers have turned into a struggle to find a time that works for everyone. While Henri pursues her dream of owning her own movie theater and goes from one party to the next, Merle’s long nights are now solely because her baby won’t sleep. And although Katharina loves her job at the bookstore, after ten years in a relationship, she’s no longer sure of her feelings for her partner.

Suddenly, what separates them seems to outweigh the common ground they once shared. As each of them struggles on her own with the challenges of adulthood, their longing for the closeness and ease of the past grows.

But how do you hold onto a friendship whose parts are drifting apart like ice floes?

Jette Kötschau, born in 1992 and raised in the Siebengebirge, worked as an editor for various publishing houses after completing her studies in German language and literature and the theories and practices of professional writing. She lives with her family in Cologne. *And Yet We Were Always So Close* is her debut novel.
