Muttertage: In 1961, 18-year-old Ulrike travels to Cannes for a language course - and returns pregnant. At her parents' insistence, she enters into a sham marriage that soon breaks up. She follows the Sephardic businessman Adem to Istanbul to make a fresh start. While her children Barbara and Danyal put down roots there, Ulrike increasingly loses her footing and seeks solace in alcohol. Forty years later, Barbara's daughter Charly remembers a life between her mother and grandmother, who never spoke to each other until the end. As she searches for her missing uncle Danyal, she begins to realize how much the conflicts of previous generations continue to affect her.

An impressive debut about mothers and daughters - and the question of which inner conflicts are actually our own and whose feelings we actually carry within us.

With great sensitivity, Jennifer Segebrecht tells the story of three women who suffer and grow together.

Jennifer Segebrecht, born in 1991, lives in Cologne. After studying and living in London and San Francisco, she now works as a business psychologist and author. She was a scholarship holder of the "1:1" mentoring program for NRW writers with David Wagner and won the audience award at the Cologne Prize for Young Literature. Her short story "Etiketten" was published in Das Gramm. MUTTERTAGE is her debut novel.
